“Yes? Can I Help You, Human?”

At first, we didn’t really know what to expect for the obvious reason that NONE of us has ever seen an Ermine. Like, what’s that? A new breed of puppy? A little guinea pig? Or a squirrel relative? Maybe they finally found a real Hello Kitty or a new Pokemon? And then we saw this and we all heaved a collective “Awwwww.” It’s like a magical creature just stepped out of a Disney movie! There’s too much cuteness going on here — just look at those bright black eyes and that curious look on his face.

Also known as a short-tailed weasel, this little¬†bundle of fur likes tree roots and hollow logs. And get this, they’re good swimmers too and can easily run across snow. What a cutie! And although¬†their average life span is just 1 to 2 years (okay, this broke our hearts a little), it can also go for up to 7 years (yay!).

Quick warning: if you’re out camping or hiking and you happen to see Ermines, please resist the urge to reach out and pet them. They might see you as a threat and attack you (nope, we’re not kidding).
